The Haggin Museum’s permanent art and history exhibits are augmented by a number of temporary exhibitions annually. Special events, such as family programs, lectures, and musical performances, are held throughout the year.
Its art collection features works by such noted 19th-century painters as Albert Bierstadt, Rosa Bonheur, and William-Adolphe Bouguereau, as well as many other American and European artists.
The museum’s history collection and exhibits relate primarily to local and regional history, with the exception of the Ancient Arts Gallery:
- Pioneer Room. Focuses upon the City of Stockton - its founding in the late 1840s by Charles M. Weber, a German immigrant; the City’s Gold Rush past; its role during the California Grain Trade; and its development throughout much of the 20th century.
- California Room. Chronicles the early history of California - with special emphasis on the Stockton area.
- Jennie Hunter Rooms. Replicates four rooms from a late 1860s San Joaquin County farmhouse.
- Holt Memorial Hall. Documents Stockton’s contributions to industrial history and featuring a Holt ‘75’ Caterpillar track-type tractor with a 1904 Haines-Houser combined harvester, both of which were developed in Stockton.
- Ancient Arts Gallery. Features Old and New World antiquities. The exhibits are composed of artifacts from Ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece, as well as Pre-Columbian Mexico and Central America. This gallery is also where visitors may view the mummy of Iret-net Hor-irw, an Egyptian priest, who lived sometime during the period of 550 - 50 B.C.
The Library/Archive. The Library/Archive's primary mission is to support the museum's exhibitions and collections. Research requests are accommodated as staff time permits. The Haggin Museum also maintains several libraries, which are available to researchers by appointment only.
Special Events & Performances. Attend musical programs, historical performances, exhibition openings, and other events sponsored by the museum's Education Department and auxiliaries.
Family Events. The museum hosts numerous events for families with children ages 5-12, including hands-on art and music workshops.
Museum Store. Featuring home decor, clothing, accessories, jewelry, educational toys and more, the store is the perfect place to find that one of a kind gift from the heart. Four museum postcards in full color are on sale in the store. Adults and children can enjoy the “book corner” devoted to increasing knowledge of the museum art and history displace.
The Haggin Museum's public hours are 1:30-5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, and 1:30-9:00 p.m. The museum and museum store are closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and select holidays.
