The Davis Art Center was founded in 1959 to promote the appreciation and execution of the visual and performing arts through classes, exhibits, performances and special events. The Davis Art Center is a private, non-profit (501 c3) organization which does not receive any ongoing Federal, State or Civic funding. Program and operational funding is generated through Art Center classes, memberships, fundraisers such as the annual Holiday Sale, grants and donations. |

Davis Art Center
In 1986, the current building at 1919 F Street was completed. It is 10,000 sq. feet, which includes studios for clay, weaving, photography, multi media, tap, ballet, drama and music. Additional classes which are held in these studios include modern dance and Irish step dancing, storytelling, creative writing, martial arts, literature and language arts. Over 300 classes are offered each quarter by a faculty of 50 teachers.
The Davis Art Center staff is comprised of a full-time Executive Director, Erie Vitiello; Administrative/Publicity Assistant, Melanie Glover; Operations Manager, Mayumi Keilman; and a part time Data Systems Manager & Special Collections Curator, Michele Taylor-Hamilton; as well as Evening Assistant, Alan Dill. DAC is governed by a fifteen member Board of Directors elected to two-year terms.
Classes
The Davis Art Center currently offers over 300 classes each quarter in clay, weaving, photography, multi media, tap, ballet, drama and music. Additional classes which are held in these studios include modern dance and Irish step dancing, storytelling, creative writing, martial arts, literature and language arts. It is not necessary to be a member of the Davis Art Center in order to take classes, but we do appreciate the support your membership provides. DAC members receive a ten dollar discount on all classes and workshops.
- Beginning Suzuki Violin
Children and their parents will learn basic violin skills through the Suzuki philosophy, as well as understand and internalize the "Twinkle" rhythms through a variety of musical games and movements. No prerequisites are necessary. Parents who do not own an instrument will need to rent one to assist in learning the basic techniques, while students begin on a "box" instrument that will be made in class
- Pre-twinkle violin
A continuing pre-violin class for students who have completed one session of Beginning Suzuki Violin.
- Drop-in-art studio
This class focuses on a variety of art-making materials and techniques. Monotype, collage, mixed media, drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting are among the art media we’ll use. While each class will offer a different project, students are encouraged to pursue individual interests as well. Project materials provided; students may supplement with their own materials for personal projects. All levels, beginner through advanced, are welcome.
- Yoga for balance
By combining movement and breath, students will become more mindful. Students will work on strength and flexibility using yoga movements. Each class will include a focus on a specific theme, intended to bring balance into our lives using the tools of breath and body. Suitable for beginners and those with experience.
