San Pasqual Winery

San Pasqual Winery makes wines that are simple yet elegant, that have a sense of old-world culture in a new context. Here, at the edge of the Pacific Ocean, San Pasqual wines are at home with sunny al fresco dining and a comfortable approach to wine appreciation. Just as the patrons of yesteryear brought old-world refinement to their “rough-and-ready” haciendas, our wines pair sophistication with down-to-earth accessibility.

San Pasqual Winery
San Pasqual Winery is an “urban winery,” or “micro winery,” buying grapes from local vineyards. We don't grow grapes - that's farming, and we tend to have brown thumbs instead of green. We've retro-fitted our warehouse space to accommodate winemaking. We have all our equipment, tanks, and supplies right here in town.
San Pasqual Winery seeks to highlight the communities and people who make San Diego what it is in the past, present, and future. Each varietal or blend is thoughtfully named after places and famous figures of San Diego history, fostering a strong sense of pride in our heritage.
Proprietors Erik Humphrey and Steve May are both local San Diegans, musicians and surfers with a passion for wine. Erik as winemaker learned the trade working with his father in Napa Valley for over 10 years before bringing his family passion to the San Diego market. Steve, a long time coffee-roaster and spice importer, oversees the sales and business side with his experienced eye for culinary excellence.
White Wines:
- Passionfruit Wine. A light, crisp and flavorful fruit wine made for easy drinking to complement the coastal living of San Diego, California where it was crafted.
- Grenache Blanc de Noir. Slightly sweet, and light bodied, this is perfect for sipping at a picnic or on a warm summer evening. Strawberries in the nose, apples on the palate, and a hint of white pepper in the finish. Also known as a “vin gris” our Garnacha Blanca is a white wine made of red grapes.
- Chardonnay. Dry, full-bodied, lightly oaked for 6 months. Banana bread on the nose. Flavors of banana, honey, and caramel with a butter finish.
- Sauvignon Blanc is a Bordeaux French varietal, often called the “most food-friendly” of wines. Our sauvignon blanc maintains the crisp and refreshing qualities that are the hallmark of this varietal, while sur lies aging lends a smooth quality. Aromas include nutty pear, citrus, and litchi.
Red Wines:
- Tempranillo and garnacha are the standard bearers for Spain's Rioja wines. These two provide a stable base, the barbera provides fruitiness, and the Cabernet rounds out the body.
- Cabernet Sauvignon. Full bodied red with masculine character. Leather, tobacco, and smoky notes. Drinkable now, but ample tannins also make this a good cellar candidate.
- Escondido (Merlot). Dry & medium bodied red - A French Bordeaux varietal. Merlot wines offer flavors similar to Cabernet but with a greater sense of exuberant fruitiness.
- Coronado Port (Zinfandel). Sweet, thick and rich - very good dessert wine, or to sip while enjoying a fine cigar! American oaked for 15 months. Port is made by adding wine distillate/brandy to partially fermented wine.
Tasting Hours. We are open by appointment only. Come on down and enjoy an hour or two with us! Tasting fee is discounted from any wine purchase. Our small, personable tasting room is great for tasting, but unfortunately we do not have picnic or banquet facilities.
