Chevra Kadisha Mortuary offers traditional Jewish mortuary and cemetery services at affordable prices. We service all Jewish cemeteries. Our funeral directors are available 24 hours a day in the event of death. Our own Jewish staff takes care of everything from the time of death until after the funeral service. We perform the tahara (washing and dressing) and the shmira (person who stays with the deceased and recites Psalms). The first step in making arrangements is choosing the cemetery. We have plots available at Beth Israel, Mount Carmel, Agudath Achim, and Young Israel Cemeteries. We can also help you choose a plot in another memorial park and cemetery, if that is more suitable for your needs. We do not provide cremation or embalming as both of these are prohibited by Jewish law. The traditional funeral package includes complete mortuary services, tahara, shrouds, shomer, funeral director, hearse at cemetery and plain pine casket. This price also includes the burial permit and one certified death certificate. This does not include the rabbi's fee or cemetery charges. For more information please refer to our general price list. When an individual has died in a hospital, the next-of-kin must sign a release to allow the Chevra Kadisha Mortuary to pick up the deceased. This form can be the hospital's or ours. We must also be provided with the deceased's vital statistics such as date of birth, social security number, occupation, address, and parents' names. We require the name of the primary physician and doctor's phone number. If a death has occurred on Shabbos or Jewish holiday, our calls are directed to an experienced mortuary answering service. The service operator will arrange for the removal of the deceased. After Shabbos or Yom Tov, our funeral director calls the family.
