Southern California Dance Theatre

 
The Southern California Dance Theatre serves to encourage the people in the Greater Long Beach area to become involved in the performing arts through dance, choreography, stage performances, theater productions and arts education. The Southern California Dance Theatre has built up its repertoire to four annual stage productions representing classical story ballets, choreographic projects and children's performances.

Each summer Southern California Dance Theatre hosts the Young Choreographers' Workshop, a four-week intensive course for dance students age 12 through 22.  A certain number of scholarships have been made available through a generous grant from the Long Beach Public Corporation for the Arts. In addition, with our lecture demos, Southern California Dance Theatre visits over 80 Long Beach and Downey Unified Schools annually with programs appealing to ages Kindergarten through 12th grade.
We offer classes six days a week except Sundays.
Our classes are Pre-Ballet, Ballet I, Ballet II, Ballet III, Ballet IY, Ballet Y Pointe, Variations, Adult Beginners, Jazz I, Jazz II. Each class lasts from 45 minutes for beginners to 90 minutes for intermediates.
Dress Code.
- Ladies. Black Leotard, Pink tights (Black for jazz/tap), Pink ballet slippers (Black jazz/tap shoes), Hair in a bun.
- Gentlemen. White T-Shirt, Black or grey tights, Black or white ballet slippers.
Paula Vreulink is the Artistic Director and Founder of the Southern California Dance Theatre, a non-profit organization. She has choreographed numerous contemporary and classical full-length works for the company, such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Coppelia, La Boutique Fantasque, and Les Sylphides. Paula received her training at the Dutch National Ballet Academy (formerly Scapino Dance Academy) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After arriving in the U.S., she danced as a soloist with the Long Beach Ballet, currently the Los Angeles Classical Ballet, for seven years. Paula was also on the teaching staff of the Long Beach Ballet Arts Center, of which 3 years were served as the Associate Director.
Susan Dagan Nalicat is the co-founder of the Southern California Dance Theatre.  Susan has served on the Board of Directors of the Ballet of the Sun with Helena Ross (currently Vienna Opera Ballet) and the Orange County Metropolitan Ballet Company. She has volunteered and provided photography services for these organizations as well as other local dance companies. In addition, Susan enjoys photographing Long Beach scenes and has donated several of the photos to the Long Beach Historical Society.  She has written a collection of poetry, "Too Old to Cry", and at times has provided materials for Long Beach Lyricks.
Susan Janson is a Board President of the Southern California Dance Academy, as well as the tap and hip-hop instructor, and has performed in numerous Southern California Dance Theatre productions. She recently graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and presently is the owner of Kick It Up Kidz, a fitness and dance center. Her vision for Southern California Dance Theatre includes creating a community that will embrace the theatre, its performers, and the many opportunities to educate and enrich the lives of the people in Southern California.
