The Converge Search Process
Step One:
Visit the company first hand. One gets a good sense for what the client considers good people; reveals the climate these candidates would be working in; and cements the recruiter’s credibility with potential candidates he will be speaking with by enabling him to present a first hand observation of the company, people, and environment. It also offers one a chance to meet the people involved and to discuss the search strategy.
Step Two:
Starting with the SIC # (Standard Industrial Code) for the industry the client’s company would come under, one quickly identifies competitors and adds companies in analogous industries who employ candidates we would be interested in. One can then proceed to the internet where there is a quantity of information on each of these companies, and the industry associations that support those companies. From all this we build a control sheet, or list, of people to call.
Step Three:
Within three weeks we shall have begun to identify candidates and start emailing resumes to the client. We would pick a specific day of the week when it’s best to review these candidates with the search committee (usually the person for whom the search is being done and human resources). By the end of thirty days, the search committee will be identifying those candidates they want the recruiter to interview personally.
Step Four:
We recommend Video Conferences because of the quick turn around and the consistent accuracy we have achieved, but we can certainly fly to see the candidates individually if the client insists. At the end of this 1-2 week process, we make recommendations on whom the client should see in a candidate letter.
Step Five:
On those candidates ultimately chosen to bring in for interview with the company, (a) we check the degrees to ensure they are valid and (b) set the candidate up for interviews – such as plane tickets, hotel accommodations, and interviewing time needed. Ideally the search committee plus two or three others who will be working with this future employee make up interviewing panel.
Step Six:
Checking references. We will check the references given by the candidates. We are guaranteeing this candidate for a specified period of time, so we do not want to make a mistake any more than the client.
Step Seven:
We offer to negotiate the salary or assist in this process. We would work with the successful candidate in the relocation if that’s required.
Step Eight:
We will follow up with the successful candidate a month into the job and see how things are going and feedback comments.
