Calcareous Vineyards

Calcareous Vineyards is located on Peachy Canyon Road in the Westside hills of Paso Robles, California. Established in 2000, Calcareous Vineyards is a 442-acre estate that begins about one mile to the west of town and stretches for several miles towards the beautiful Pacific Ocean.The expanse of this land offers many opportunities for optimal vineyard sites and varietal selections.
The vision of three motivated people helped make Calcareous Vineyard a reality. Lloyd Messer sold his wine and beer distributing business in Sioux City, Iowa, to search for the ideal growing region for his vineyard sites. He recognized Paso Robles, California, as an emerging premium wine producing area. Daughter Dana Brown sold her Iowa wine distributing business to partner with Lloyd and shape the dream with her passion and classic style.
The benefit of the Westside of Paso Robles is that the terrain allows for the production of Bordeaux, Rhone, and Burgundy varietals virtually side-by-side. The limestone soils were derived from the sea-life once covering these hills in pre-historic times; creating the foundation for a great vineyard. The hills emerged from the depths of the ocean by the colliding forces of geological plates and volcanic eruption; this has created varied microclimates on the sides of the hills, due to the different exposures to sun, wind, and rain.
All of our wines are barrel aged in French and American Oak, and most are fermented with native yeasts. The result is a library of fruit-bearing, aromatic, and richly flavored wines.
We offer wines:
- Twisted Sister Rose is full flavored traditional dry rose.
- Roussanne has a brilliant golden straw yellow color.
- Chardonnay offers a rich yellow straw color. It presents a bouquet of creamy peach fruit, hazelnut, vanilla oak and a hint of nuttiness.
- White Rhone Blend has a nose full of honey suckle and spring blossoms.Along with blood orange and honey the mouth has toasted almonds.
- Tres Violet is medium red purple in color. Ripe, rich Rhone aromas. The nose shows dark cherries, raspberries and a hint of mocha chocolate.
- York Mountain Cabernet has good density to go along with its dark red, purple hues.
- Twisted Sisters Bordeaux Style Blend offers rich colors of dark red and purple. The bouquet presents a riper complexion of cherry and blueberry fruits, along with dominant spicy oak aromas.
- Pinot Noir is a vibrant and deep, garnet colored wine. The nose exhibits aromas of dried cranberries and cinnamon with underlining hints of toffee and dried flowers.
- Zinfandel has aromas of spicy briar-berry fruit. This wine is rich in fruit flavor with silky textured tannins, complemented by gentle oak nuances.
