Santa Barbara designer, Laura Lynch has devoted years to the lost art of millinery and has discovered ways to join function and fashion in her hat designs for Laura`s Lids and hanna rae designs. Inspired by her degree in history and Czechoslovakian heritage, Laura incorporates select techniques and styles from the millinery trade dating back to the first part of the 20th century. Laura`s hats have a softness and quality that only comes from the time consuming process of hand blocking felts and straws. This cannot be attained by today`s machine blocked products.
Floral trims on most hats are handmade pins, so they can easily be removed to change a look from romantic to simple elegance. Ease of wear is a priority, and Laura`s Lids designs always include packable and size adjustable hats-the perfect accessory for vacation or business travel.

We use only the best quality materials.
Each our hat has a block from which it was shaped. Most blocks are made of poplar wood and are either machine manufactured, or hand shaped to create special shapes and sizes. Crown and Brim blocks can be used separately or together to form various styles. We use Velours, which made from long-cut rabbit fur and are steel brushed to create the soft texture. Furs are also made of rabbit, though traditionally made from beaver down. Our silk ribbon used for both trimming and hand made flowers, is hand dyed and varies from batch to batch. Many color combinations are exclusive to our company and designed by Laura Lynch.
