Pediatric Feeding Seminar
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) has long been proven to be an effective means to combat food aversions, food refusal, texture selectivity, food selectivity, tube weaning, and other problems with children who are failure to thrive (FTT). This seminar will focus on behavioral methods to increase oral intake. It will also have information regarding nutrition, GI(gastrointestinal) anatomy, medications, conditions and diseases, swallowing issues and coping mechanisms for parents who have children with feeding issues. The Pediatric Feeding Seminar is a must-attend seminar for the parents of children suffering from feeding disorders, caregivers of children suffering from feeding disorders, Pediatricians, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Pediatric Gastroenterologists, Registered Dieticians, and Nutritionists. Ben Zimmerman (senior consultant) BS, MS in psychology with emphasis in behavioral analysis. Worked at the Kennedy Krieger Institute (affiliated with Johns Hopkins) in the Feeding Disorders Program. Worked as a feeding therapist in the inpatient Feeding Disorders unit, where kids between 9 months and 11 years of age were treated for severe food refusal. Also worked in the Outpatient Feeding Disorders Program with a variety of cases. This included doing clinic evaluations to determine whether a child was appropriate for the program, as well as determining where they belonged in the program if treatment was advised. Spent one year consulting out of state (after working at Kennedy Krieger Institute), as well as abroad, before deciding to open the Los Altos Feeding Clinic. Ben Zimmerman works from a behavioral perspective. Although from experience working in a multidisciplinary team at Kennedy Krieger Institute, Ben has learned that other disciplines must be taken into account.
